Comfort Light

Design for a Sustainable Future, User Specialization: Course

During the last century, the need to move towards more sustainable lifestyles has been acknowledged by many people. There is an ongoing focus on creating energy-efficient homes and appliances. However, household residents do not always use them in the most energy-efficient ways. So creating environmental friendly technology is only a part of a bigger solution. Changing people’s behavior towards sustainability is also a crucial factor when designing for a sustainable future. Users are often limited in their efforts toward living a sustainable life by the design of products and spaces around them. Despite having freedom of choice and the ability to make informed decisions, some responsibility over sustainability rests with the designer as well.

The goal of the comfort light is to change unsustainable showering habits without compromising the comfort. For the comfort light to perform well, the user has to perform extra actions compared to a normal shower experience. This means the user has to spend time understanding the device and what all the colors represent and that might reduce the comfort experienced by the user.
